Blue Moon Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale
Blue Moon is a weird series of beers. As a beer now brewed by Coors, it finds its way into pretty much every bar and restaurant you come across, but it’s different enough for non-beer nerds to think it along the lines of craft beer. I won’t argue the classification of Blue Moon beers, but I’ll say that this brew lived up to the Blue Moon reputation.
This was the first pumpkin beer I had this season. It had a thin, white head that faded pretty quickly. It had a reddish, amber color. More red than expected. There’s a very definite pumpkin and nutmeg aroma.
Nutmeg, cloves, and pumpkin flavor hits you first, but then it becomes just a plain old wheat beer with a hint of spice. It seems like it’s a wheat that they just tossed pumpkin seasonings into.
It’s not the best beer, or even the best pumpkin, but if it’s the only available pumpkin brew for you, go ahead and pick it up. Your friends will be excited, at least.
