Wasatch Pumpkin Ale
It’s that time of year, where the leaves turn and the weather is supposedly colder. As a New Orleanian, our fall isn’t always full of below-60 temps or colorful leaves, but the feeling of Halloween and Thanksgiving and upcoming Christmas is usually pretty rich in us anyway. I’m generally a big fan of pumpkin flavored anything, and beer is no different.
Wasatch’s pumpkin seasonal poured a nice amber color, with some red and orange in it, falling right in line with how a fall seasonal should look. It had a decent white head as well. The aroma was noticeably full of pumpkin puree, cloves, and nutmeg.
It had a rather thin body, and goes down quite easily. There was much more pumpkin in the aroma than in the flavor, though. You can notice the pumpkin in the front, with hints of the other spices coming through, but the pumpkin quickly disappears on the finish, leaving just an okay ale behind. It did get somewhat better as it warmed, but that reached a point of no return as well.
I didn’t hate the beer (it’s definitely a 3/5), but as a pumpkin beer, I wanted more pumpkin and spice, but instead I got a little bit of pumpkin and then just beer.
