Green Flash is one of those craft breweries that unless you’re in their distribution area or are a craft beer geek, you likely haven’t head of them. I had, in passing, but seeing as I’m in New Orleans and they’re on the West Coast, I hadn’t had the pleasure. Just recently they announced they’d be distributing to the area and jumped on the chance to have a few at Avenue Pub.

The beer pours a nice reddish amber color with a decent creamy head. It has a very strong hop aroma, which is to be expected in an IPA. I could smell the hops just from pouring the beer without having my nose right on the glass. There’s also a slight aroma of wheat when you get closer.

It has a very smooth mouthfeel to it and a strong hop flavor. It has a light but hoppy front and a bitter finish. You can actually taste the different hops. Obviously, most people (including myself) can’t tell which is which, but there is a discernible difference in the hoppy flavors. The one I noticed the most from experience was the Amarillo hops. These are used in the actual brewing process (along with Nugget and Columbus), but are also used to dry hop it, which explains the the stronger flavor.

It leaves a nice lacing on the glass as you drink, too.

The beer has an amazing flavor, especially when you let it linger in your mouth for a bit. It’s a fantastic IPA and a welcomed addition to Louisiana.

We found this bottled at Cork & Bottle in New Orleans.
